My Yard is a Meadow

Although native plants and grasses will help Caara Stoney to keep her 2-acre, sloping yard from erosion, an anonymous complaint citing the 1996 city ordinance that states that grasses cannot exceed 10 inches in height landed Stoney in court three times this past year.      City forester, Gene Hyde said that the city is interested to rewrite the ordinance to include “naturalistic meadows” but finding the right language has been a challenge.    Hyde has been working with Stoney to develop a stewardship plan for her property.
