UTC Department of Theatre and Speech presents Mamet play

“The Water Engine” by David Mamet opens on February 5th at the Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre in the Fine Arts Building on the UTChattanooga campus.   For reservations call 423-425-4269.

Set  in the Depression Era around the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, the play is subtitled “an American Fable” and centers around a young inventor’s attempts to patent an engine that runs on water.    Written as a radio play, “The Water Engine” was first produced in 1977 at the Public Theater by Steven Schachter who also directed the made-for-television movie version in 1992.
