Broken City Lab is a “creative research group,” according to its founder, Justin Langlois that uses art as a means to “tactically disrupt and engage the city, its communities, and its infrastructures to re-imagine the potential for action in the collapsing post-industrial city” of Windsor, Canada(this quote is from PSFK’s website). Another website covers one of Broken City Lab’s projects with an article entitled, “Art-Therapy for a City on the Mend.”
Windsor has historically been called the automotive capital of Canada but this once booming city which is situated directly across the river from Detroit, Michigan is now in the throws of major lay-offs and decline. Langlois founded Broken City Lab as a way to re-imagine a way forward to a better future for his home town.
The above photo is of a projection from the Chrysler Building in Windsor overlooking the river into Detroit.
