REPORTING: RABBIT ZIELKE
The Chattanooga Roller Girls are meeting the Columbia QuadSquad Saturday night, May 15th, at the Chattanooga Convention Center for the first home bout of the 2010 season. The Chattanooga Roller Girls are part of an Apprentice League in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. The Chattanooga team might be a young group but they are a feisty bunch of women.
Each member of the team adopts a skating persona that becomes part of the punk attitude and entertainment of the events. Don’t let them fool you. These women are serious athletes competing to win in a contact sport that is fast paced and intense.
The Chattanooga Roller Girls are a nonprofit organization that also spend time supporting local charities. The 2010 charity is the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga. Each team member spends time each month in support of the animals and the shelter. Proceeds from the bouts and events go to local charities. Tickets will be available at the door. Kids 6-12 get a discount and children 5 and under are free. Doors open at 6:00 pm. The bout begins at 7:00 pm. Get there early if you want a good seat.
