Artini

REPORTING:  RABBIT ZIELKE

Every time a family is put out of their home by a fire or disaster the American Red Cross is there to provide temporary shelter.  When a storm or natural disaster forces evacuation of homes in this region or even in other parts of the country, the Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross is prepared to assist with food and shelter. Emergency assistance is probably the most well-known service the Red Cross offers.  The Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross also provides training classes in First Aid and other safety topics.

One of the largest ongoing programs hosted by the Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross is the hospital volunteer program.  This team of volunteers are placed in hospitals and clinics all over the region to assist patients and their families with general information.  Often a Red Cross volunteer is the person at the information desk that helps you locate a hospital room or perhaps takes flowers and cards up to the patient room.  The Red Cross Hospital Volunteers have been integrated into the local hospitals for decades and provide an important service to patients and their families.

The Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross is hosting Artini, a silent auction and fundraiser for the Hospital Volunteer program and disaster relief efforts.  This event will be Saturday, August 14th from 6 to 8 pm at the Chattanoogan Hotel.  The Chattanooga Symphony Youth Orchestra will be providing music.  Tickets are available in advance or at the door.  Pre-reservations are encouraged.  There is a discount for purchasing tickets in advance.  You can pick up your tickets at the Red Cross office at 801 McCallie Avenue in Chattanooga.  Call 423-265-3455 for more details.
