REPORTING: RABBIT ZIELKE
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been hosting a program that stimulates and enhances the quality of life for senior citizens in the Chattanooga Region. Originally begun by Alumni, the Elder Scholars program is open to everyone in the community aged 55 and above with an interest in the world around them. The Elder Scholars program provides opportunities to audit classes and attend monthly lectures on the campus of UTC.
Auditing classes allows the Elder Scholar to attend university courses without the pressure of exams and final projects. The audited courses do not count toward a degree but do provide the Elder Scholar a chance to brush up on the latest information on their favorite topic, or perhaps delve into something entirely new.
The monthly Elder Scholar Speaker Series brings in guests on a variety of topics chosen by the Elder Scholars that participate in the program. Local experts or professors from UTC are invited to present a lecture and discussion to the group. These events are scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month. The next event will be September 14th at 1:00 pm in the University Center on the campus of UTC.
All programs hosted by the Elder Scholars are free and open to anyone age 55 and above. To be added to the email list for future Elder Scholar events contact smcintosh27@ comcast.net or phone 423-485-1046.
