REPORTING: RABBIT ZIELKE
There is always something going on at Rock City but in October this icon of Americana shares the spotlight with several nonprofit organizations in Chattanooga. Rock City partners with these organizations to support advocacy efforts and help spread awareness of their missions.
October is breast cancer awareness month and Rock City is partnering with the Scenic City Survivors during the German heritage festival Rocktoberfest. The ladies have all been touched by breast cancer and will be at the pavilion each weekend in October to share their strength as cancer survivors. You may also have an opportunity to pick up on one of the limited edition pink See Rock City bird houses. Proceeds from the sale of these bird houses will support the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.
The Enchanted Maze at Blowing Springs Farm returns this year with a new maze to solve along with fall harvest family fun. The Re-Maze featuring all recyclable materials will return as well with an opportunity for Orange Grove Recycling Center to share information on the importance of recycling. There will also be a scarecrow building competition featuring reused, re-purposed, and recycled materials and the team efforts of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga.
Once the sun sets things will get a bit scarier down on the farm thanks to the efforts of the Chattanooga Theatre Center. They will be working with Rock City to populate this year’s Forest of Fear at Blowing Screams Farms as well as the Ghost Ride.
Listen to the story.
