“Songs for a New World” Opens at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre

October 22nd to November 2nd, 2010 The Theatre Centre Circle Series brings playgoers “Song for a New World.”     Here’s how the Theatre Centre describes this upcoming work:

This dynamic musical revue by Jason Robert Brown (music and lyrics) is the opening show in this season’s Circle Series. It’s exciting, funny, and quite moving. Four singers – Lisa Gates, Hayley Graham, Caleb Hicks, and Cody Keown portray many different characters in this highly engaging evening of song. Some of the songs reference well-known popular, historical and fictional characters, including Christopher Columbus, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Betsy Ross and Mrs. Santa Claus. Directed by George Quick. No real “set” or costumes – the lyrics, music and singers are the stars here – with lighting by George Quick and Maria Chattin Carter.

The beautiful Yamaha piano for this production has been generously donated by our Co-Producer for the show, Crutcher Pianos.

Theatre Centre’s website continues:

Composer Jason Robert Brown has said of his show, “It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” The music is heavily influenced by a broad range of musical genres, including pop, gospel, jazz and classical music. Some of the songs reference well-known historical and fictional characters, including Mrs. Santa Claus, Christopher Columbus, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Betsy Ross.
