Sculpture Burn, Chattanooga Fire Cabaret Performance at Mainx24

REPORTING: MICHAEL EDWARD MILLER

Mainx24, the festival celebrating Chattanooga’s Southside district, will feature about a dozen art-related events.  Today, we’re talking about one of the most unique… the sculpture burn.

Andrew Nigh at Wintersun Studio is a woodworker and artist.  He’s planning to build an elaborate, eighteen-foot tall wooden sculpture that looks kind of like a giant trophy, and then set it on fire.

This type of art is uncommon in Chattanooga.  It’s meant to be set ablaze, with flames that may spark and change color.  It might remind you of a fireworks display.  If you’ve been to big festivals that celebrate fire, festivals like Burning Man, you know that drumming and dancing are often a big part of it, and the sculpture burn at Mainx24 may feature some of that.

The festival begins on December 4th.  The sculpture burning will begin at 8 p.m.   The Chattanooga Fire Cabaret will also perform, spinning fire hoops and batons and breathing fire.

You can find a complete schedule here.
