The Barbicambarus simmonsi is an absolute giant in the world of crayfish. Signal Mountain native Jeff Simmons was the first to find this species in the Tennessee River watershed near the border of Tennessee and Alabama. The crayfish is almost twice the size of most crayfish. It is rather amazing that this giant crayfish managed to go unnoticed in this active stream but so far it is considered rare as only a few have been found.
