Robotic radiosurgery is the newest tool to battle cancer. Using a robotic arm that would normally be used in auto manufacturing, the Cyberknife is teaming that technology with pinpoint radiation and traditional x-ray technology to burn away inoperable tumors without surgery. The key to pulling all this technology together has been advancement in computers. The program is able to track the tumor in real time while activating the robot arm to apply radiation directly to the tumor. While the Cyberknife is not useful for all cancer tumors, the application of this new technology is making a major difference in the treatment of inoperable cancer. Cyberknife is located at Erlanger Hospital.
