One Very Old Shark

Reporting:  Rabbit Zielke

Since 1991 the Tennessee Aquarium has been home for what may be the oldest bonnethead shark in captivity.  Senior Aquarist Rob Mottice brought some bonnethead sharks to the aquarium before the facility was open to the public.  At that time the age of the bonnethead could have been 2 or 3 years old.  This grand daddy of sharks is still swimming strong in the River Journey building at the Tennessee Aquarium at an estimated 22 years old, fully 5 years older than the oldest bonnethead shark on record.
