From the Press Release:
Rock/Creek, Outdoor Chattanooga and the Tennessee River Gorge Trust have partnered to resurrect a favorite kayaking event. Kayak for Conservation, “Paddle to Preserve,” will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2011. This ever popular event has been absent for a few years, but is back and promises to be better than ever!
We want you to paddle to preserve the scenic Tennessee River Gorge. All proceeds will benefit the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, a local land trust that is celebrating thirty years of working to preserve the Gorge for future generations. BYOBoat or rent one! Come float the Tennessee and see yet another reason to love Chattanooga and the surrounding region!
The Tennessee River Gorge possesses great ecological and historical value, and the best view is from water level. Kayakers often encounter Great Blue Herons, the occasional Red-Tailed Hawk and other incredible wildlife. The 8 mile adventure includes a delicious lunch at the Pot Point Cabin provided by Urban Spoon and some wonderful gear including a Patagonia RunShade shirt valued at $45 thanks to Rock/Creek.
But wait! The fun doesn’t end there… after the paddle, join everyone at Rock/Creek’s new location on Amnicola Highway to browse for gear & have a beer at the post-paddle party! “We are so happy to bring back the much anticipated Kayak for Conservation. The Gorge is a beautiful place and we are proud supporters,” says Dawson Wheeler of Rock/Creek.

Special thanks to the City of Chattanooga’s Outdoor Chattanooga who will be providing gear and a shuttle and also to the volunteers and members of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust and their efforts to protect this special wild place.
