Getting It Wrong Finally Gets The Story Right For William Randolph Hearst, Others

REPORTING: MICHAEL EDWARD MILLER

In this segment, W. Joseph Campbell joins us.  He’s a professor at American University and the author of Getting It Wrong: Ten of the Greatest Misreported Stories in American Journalism.  The book debunks famous media myths, such as William Randolph Hearst supposedly saying, “You furnish the pictures, and I’ll furnish the war.”

We’re talking to him today because he’s going to be in town soon for the annual Symposium on the 19th Century Press, the Civil War, and Free Expression.  At the symposium, he will give a couple of talks about media myths and the era of yellow journalism.

The Symposium begins Nov. 10th, at 4 p.m at the Read House, and continues over the weekend on the UTC campus.  It’s free and open to the public.  A complete schedule is online.
