Vaudeville Café Joins Chattanooga’s Alternative Comedy Scene

November 2, 2011

Chattanooga’s alternative comedy scene has been growing for more than two years, and it now includes Web series such as Natural 20’s and stand-up comedy in local bars and clubs.  Joel Ruiz is a performer, writer and one of the scene’s main organizers.  In this segment, he discusses some new developments, including how he’s now working with the Vaudeville Café to bring local acts to their stand-up showcases on Friday and Saturday nights.

Here’s the teaser trailer for the Web series Natural 20’s:

And a big headliner coming up – on December 16th and 17th, Bobcat Goldthwait will come to the Vaudeville Cafe to perform three shows.  Tickets are available on Vaudeville’s Web site.

The BEARDS OF COMEDY tour comes to Chattanooga’s JJ’s BOHEMIA April 4

February 18, 2011

From the Press Release:

The BEARDS OF COMEDY Tour is quickly becoming one of the hottest shows in the U.S, with four of the funniest, freshest (and yes, bearded) faces in comedy. Not your typical Southern comedians, the Beards deliver an original brand of humor that’s deeply rooted in stand-up, and lightly blended with avant-garde elements of music, sketch and improv. The Beards are Andy Sandford (CMT’s Next Big Comic), Joe Zimmerman (Rooftop Comedy’s Golden Shingle Award nominee), TJ Young (Stand-Out Stand Up winner at 2008’s Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival) and Dave Stone (Adult Swim’sSquidbillies ).

Offering their own refreshing twist on the traditional stand-up comedy show, their work has not gone unnoticed, selling out shows in numerous southeastern markets. In July 2009, the Beards recorded their debut album, “Comedy for People” for Rooftop Comedy Records. Individually, the Beards have worked with Aziz Ansari, Todd Barry, Doug Benson, Jim Breuer, Greg Giraldo, Andy Kindler, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Marc Maron, Greg Proops and many more.
